IndustREAL is a software division of I/O Design and Engineering, a Trail, BC based mechanical engineering company specializing in machine and equipment design for heavy industry. Our mission is to empower people and organizations to better understand their world.

IndustREAL was born out of a desire to do more with the 3D information generated during the engineering process. We were frustrated that so much useful 3D data was ultimately being translated back into 2D and not leveraged beyond producing engineering deliverables. We thought that better use of 3D data could drive improvements in the safety and efficiency of project execution. As we explored this path we began to see even more potential in bringing 3D together with rich data to create comprehensive digital models of real-world entities. Since 2017, our focus has been on developing Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Digital Twin applications using 3D data from CAD models and LiDAR scans and integrating domain specific data from a variety of sources.

We believe that 3D is a powerful tool for understanding the world around us - after all the world we live in is 3D. 3D has often been a missing piece of the puzzle in traditional tools used to understand industrial assets, but recent advances in real-time 3D software development technologies have made it more accessible than ever to develop 3D applications, and rapidly advancing Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technologies are providing new, powerful ways to understand and interact with 3D data. We are passionate about exploring the new possibilities these advancements provide and applying them to solve real world problems.

The IndustREAL team combines expertise in developing large scale, data heavy, enterprise software systems with 3D real-time software development. IndustREAL's software development team is backed by the I/O Design & Engineering team's mechanical engineering, 3D scanning, and CAD modelling expertise and extensive industrial domain knowledge. These combined skill sets allow us to create software solutions that leverage deep domain knowledge of industrial environments and engineering quality 3D modelling.
